Undergirding … 'support from below' [Encarta Dictionary-English North America].

God’s arms of protection are underneath me.

“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,
That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever (Psalm 30:11 NASB).”

WOW; God has girded me with gladness!

“Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations (Psalm 100:1-5 NASB).”

On the other hand, gladness comes in many ways.

“Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:11-12 NASB). Jesus' followers can expect persecution. We can trust God; He undergirds His children with gladness.
