More, More and More

The Cookie Monster is not a 'scary' monster.

He just likes to eat cookies.

He wants more, more and more.

I remember another fictional character. Yogi the Bear likes to eat food from picnic baskets. His greed for snacks led him to the sin of stealing. When tempted, he did not resist; he stole food filled baskets.

Do we resist greed?

“Someone in the crowd said to Him, ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.’ But He said to him, ‘Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?’ Then He said to them, ‘Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions (Luke 12:13-15 NASB).”

The dividing of a family inheritance frequently reveals greed among the heirs. Some squabble; others even allow bitterness to take root. Siblings allow their greed to divide them; they hold grudges and do not even speak to each other. If they only knew…

God offers a far greater inheritance.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5 NASB).”
