Stepping Outside

Where’s your comfort zone?

I’d guess its home sweet home. Hopefully, you also have a church home. The love and acceptance of family and friends helps to ease fears and reduce stress.

God sometimes directs us away from our comfort zones. That takes a heap of faith.

Noah had been living inside the security of the ark.

“Then God spoke to Noah, ‘Come out of the ark, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons’ wives with you. Bring out all the living creatures that are with you—birds, livestock, those that crawl on the ground—and they will spread over the earth and be fruitful and multiply on the earth (Genesis 8:15-17 HCSB).”

The earth (as Noah had known it) was destroyed by God in a flood. He likely stepped outside his comfort zone with caution and trepidation; yet, leave he did.

“So Noah, along with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, came out. All wildlife, all livestock, every bird, and every creature that crawls on the earth came out of the ark by their groups.

Then Noah built an altar to the Lord. He took some of every kind of clean animal and every kind of clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar (Genesis 8:18-20 HCSB).”

LORD, give us courage to step outside our comfort zones.

“Then Jesus came near and said to them, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:18-20 HCSB).”
