The Enemy

The cowboys were not suffering with insomnia.

They hadn't spent too much time around campfires drinking coffee.

No; they were not staying up late to count the stars.

They were standing watch.

Regular readers know that my husband and I watch a lot of old westerns. Though fiction, danger is real to characters in many of these movies. Fearing attacks from enemies, brave men served as watchmen. Men with weapons at hand, in the dark of night, stayed alert to protect friends.

God’s watchmen, as prayer warriors, yield the sword of the Spirit!

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, (Ephesians 6:18a NKJV).”

Standing watch…

“being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— (Ephesians 6:18b NKJV).”

The enemy is real. Will we persevere?

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world (1 Peter 5:8-9 NKJV).”
