Spring Cleaning

Itís winter. Take my word for it; spring will come.

Clearing clutter precedes spring cleaning. Why do I accumulate so much stuff?

Iím a packrat.

The stuff is mine. Attitudes of toddler years go into adult years.

We cling to things that are of no lasting importance.

Security rests in Jesus alone.

"I came that they might have life and might have it abundantly (John 10:10 NASB).Ē

Shortly after our marriage (in 1967) we moved from Central New York State to Mississippi. We made that transition with only what could be held in our 1961 Chevrolet Impala. Arriving in Leland, Mississippi we rented a cozy 2 bedroom fully furnished house. Rent was only $75 a month.

As a new bride I began the disciplines of housekeeping. I discovered litter in lower kitchen cabinets and cleaned the area well. Confused, I found it had reappeared a day or two later. I called the problem to my husband Norm's attention and his investigation revealed an intruder.

A packrat had left small shreds of material in exchange for food he foraged from my kitchen. His life was cut short.

Itís time to clear my life of the clutter of selfishness.

ďA time to keep and a time to throw away (Ecclesiastes 3:6b NASB).Ē
