A Good Listener

My husband Norm drove trucks cross-country for about ten years. He began his trucking career back in 2001 and I shared the rides for several years. I remember seeing drivers in truck stop parking lots talking to themselves; or at least that’s how it seemed.

Had they been drinking? I’d always thought that someone must be feeble minded or suffering with schizophrenia if they talked to themselves in a public place. I was dead wrong.

Truck drivers had been introduced to Bluetooth technology cell phone head sets.

They were not talking to themselves or out of their heads. There was someone out there listening.

God is a good listener.

Why do I waste time talking to myself?

Prayer is two-way communication. He wants me to talk to Him about anything and everything. Nothing is too small to bother Him with; nothing is too big for Him to understand. He talks to me; answering me with His still small voice and through His written word. Jesus gave us the model for prayer.

“Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.’

So He said to them, ‘When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one (Luke 11:1-4 NKJV).”
