I have seen where we just have the plates at the door when people exit and the offerings were better than many places where we passed the plate. One other pastor actually turned the whole thing upside down by having the sermon first and then the song service and I believe he took the offering after that or had the plates at the door. His church like crazy and the people were more active. He felt until God spoke to you through the Word your heart was not ready for praise and worship.

The church should use whatever method is convenient for them. I know of churches that use a locked box. Personally, I prefer to have the offering taken sometime before the sermon, because giving to God should be an act of worship, and that goes along with the singing, prayers, and sermon.

I have never understood how my putting money in a passed plate is worship, but putting in a box is not.

I don't "worship" God with my offering. I worship Him with my heart, my attitude of heart when I give. Weather I give in a box or in a plate or in a chicken bucket for that matter.

Our church has the offering right after the invitation, before new members are presented to the church.

This discussion is about the best time - if any- or is just a matter of preference as to when to have the offering.

      The time really doesn't matter.

I have been in sevices where it was done right after the invitation - that I do not like -
Some dont like the top of the service - as you miss the late commers.

My preference- Offering - song - message.
