On Hold

I hate being put on hold. Yet, I must admit; I put phone callers on hold when working on the air at radio stations.

‘Can you hold for a minute?’

The doctor’s office receptions have frequently put me on hold. My stress builds as Medicare provider canned announcements play over & over. Should I continue to hold? In my frustration, I often hang up.

Did you answer the LORD’s first call? Not realizing, I put Him on hold.

I was a young girl when He issued His first call to salvation. A family friend was visiting our home on a Sunday afternoon. Before leaving, she asked me and my best friend to go to the evening services at her church. We watched a movie; other than that, I don’t remember much. I do know so kind of invitation was given and I felt very uncomfortable. I ‘quenched the Holy Spirit.’ I put Jesus on hold.

“ Do not quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19 NKJV).”

God is patient. He called once again when I was 16 or 17. A friend had been saved from sin; her life was miraculously transformed. She witnessed and I winced. I felt offended and angry. Prideful and foolish, I put the Holy Trinity on hold.

Praise His name; He was persistent. His conviction was irresistible! I gave my life to Christ when I was 18.

I urge you; don’t delay.

“We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For He says:

‘In an acceptable time I have heard you,
And in the day of salvation I have helped you.’

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NKJV).”
